Nils Lindhal-Elliott will report on his research on Bristol and Paignton Zoos, particularly what he describes as dynamics of transmediation. This involves the recontextualisation of modalities, or aspects of modalities, of observation. It entails both the maintenance and transgression of social contexts by forms of displacement which are art one and the same time imaginary and embodied, 'local' and mass-mediated. His talk will consider some of the implications of this process for zoo design, and for pedagogic communication in zoos. |
